Fini......after all of these many years on this earth, I am becoming very tired / dispirited....the corruption in Government and Corporations,the lack of civility and truth in politics, the horrors and hypocrisy of wars , the cruelty that humans show to other humans and every other living creature and the wanton destruction of our planet to appease our greed.....it is time to take a mental and emotional leave of absence.......love , peace and enlightenment......Skazski.

Culture and Diplomacy

In many European countries those who want to pursue a career in the Diplomatic Corps actually train for it.....studies in cultural affairs,languages,and geography and related issues..... in this country,Diplomatic posts are all too often awarded as political "favors"..... I can only pray that Obama doesn't regard the office of Secretary of State as such.....Hillary is a very accomplished woman who would be better suited to the job of Secretary of Health etc.,which is a field that she has had years of experience in....NOT in foreign affairs / diplomacy.,...someone who has a broader knowledge of the world and who, let's hope, can speak other languages,not just English.

Here's to those happy Wastrels of Wall Street....why does AIG continue to spend bail-out money on pricey" business retreats" AKA mini vacations? why do those chowderheads continue their wasteful spending on bonuses and executive parting gifts while pleading for ( tax payer) funds for the company? because they can....due to the lack of intelligent management and strict oversight by Henry Paulson. Dizzy Turbines

Very interesting....according to a doctor ,in New York , studies report that proximity to wind turbines are responsible for vertigo , loss of sense of balance and other maladies.....hmmmmm...did the people in Holland experience those same problems when they had all those windmills? This now joins the "report" that ,at this time ,wind power can produce more power that can be properly stored.....do I see a theme emerging?

Harness Ocean Power

the power of coastal waves....doesn't it seem logical to try harnessing ocean power? in Portugal they already have power pods generating electricity off shore...the " drill , baby ,drill" mentality is side-tracking us from exploring cleaner energy options now....options that could be put to use in a shorter period of time...if one takes into account the length of time it will take to build new refineries to handle any influx of new oil.

Happy New Year!

May I be the first to wish you a Happy New Year! Absurd ? well , it is 1 week before Thanksgiving and Christmas trees are up in the city squares and ready to be decorated....stores have been decked out for the Xmas season since the day after Halloween the endless TV ads for toys and trinkets ( that very few will be able to afford this year )are underway....couldn't " commerce" wait just a few weeks....by the time the actual holiday rolls around most people are so stressed out that the feeling of " thank heavens, that's over" replaces any celebratory spirit.

Valid Reason for Marriage

what a petty world we live in.....one valid reason for " marriage"....in some states when a partner of a same=sex relationship dies , no matter how his/her will is drawn up any blood relative can challenge that will and usually win, because legal spouses' and relatives' rights trump the rights of a "life partner", no matter what the deceased wished.

Fiasco aka Prop. 8....if any church crosses the line between separation of religion and state into the business of government,and the general public , by sponsoring an Initiative that imposes its' views/ control on all non-members....then that church should lose it's tax exempt status. If a particular church refuses the sanction of a religious ceremony between gay couples that is certainly it's right....but to ban the civil marriages of such couples who aren't even members of that particular church/ faith is a further intrusion into the private lives of all citizens....gays today, who will be the targets tomorrow?!

Selling meat in the Super Market is legal...if you are a vegetarian you are not forced to buy it but it is available to those who are not vegetarian....Choice......green paint is sold in Hardware stores for those who may wish to paint their house that color,that does not mean that everyone else must do the same.....Choice. Can anyone else see the scary similarity between the preachings of the radical Islamic extremists and the extreme Christian Right? Both would impose their religious beliefs on the country....ignoring the " separation of Church and State" as advocated by our Founding Fathers and the Constitution. After Thought.....during the past campaign I've been fortunate in having conversations with a few of our Canadian neighbors....and their views of our political mechanics range from " incredulous" to " disgusting"...they can't understand how we, with our wealth and technology< can have so many problems with our voting systems. The other thing that baffled them was the nastiness allowed in the campaigns ! But they all stated that they hoped Obama would win because" he would be the one to restore America's image to the rest of the Western Hemisphere ".

on a personal note.....my father . who left Czarist Russia rather hurriedly ,believed that an education was the one asset that could never be stolen from a person, he also believed that no matter how many hours he worked there was always some time , in the day ( or night ) to gain knowledge..Of course , when he was a young man there were only books and periodicals available as sources of news....radio was the medium when he was an old man.
